Welcome to Maine Thread Company

HoneyAlfred "Honey" Baril, founder of Maine Thread Company

We are a brick and mortar company located in the historic mill town of Lewiston, Maine USA. Our company has been a family owned and operated business for nearly 60 years. Maine Thread was founded by Alfred “Honey” Baril in 1965. Today, three generations of the family carry on Honey’s legacy, led by his grandson Rusty who now owns and operates the business.

We started as a supplier to the local footwear industry throughout Maine and New England, selling our signature tapered handsewing threads. Over the years, however, our demand has expanded, and now our 100% filament waxed polyester cord is sold all over the world and can be found in popular footwear brands and accessories. Renowned for its strength and durability, we manufacture it in a variety of colors and sizes. Today our thread is not just manufactured for shoes and leather working, but for a myriad of products and crafts, for which our smaller put-ups are very popular.

On our website, you'll find all of our own manufactured threads, as well as a wide selection of threads, bobbins, and handsewing tools we supply.

We are proud of the quality of our thread, the services we provide for our customers, and that Maine Thread has been, and always will be, made in the USA.
